      Pros: I was immediately impressed when I opened the box and inventoried the bits and pieces that make up the SW-Motech aluiminum
      skidplate. The plate looked sturdy and is very well designed. I started what should have been a one-hour installation yesterday and finished it today. No problems with SW-Motech but a real struggle with the V-Strom. To install this item, you need to remove the two large bolts that secure the kickstand. The instructions just say, remove bolts; not so easy. These bolts are secured with Locktite red (or perhaps JB-weld). They were impossible to remove until I did a little research and found out that heat is needed to loosen the bolts. If you are attempting this rather straight-forward install yourself, use a heat gun aimed at the head of the bolt for a good five minutes per bolt. Then you will need an impact wrench or, in my case, I used a 17mm box wrench and wacked on it with a plastic faced hammer. This extra ten minutes of applying heat will save you a great deal of frustration and scraped knuckles. One other word of caution, don't use a rear axel stand as I did; strap the bike down with tie downs so that it is completely stable. The wrestling with the kickstand bolts could (did) rock the bike off the stand. Now that the installation is complete, I must say I like the look of the bike much better and I am much more confident that the oil filter will be safe from frontal impact. Great piece!
      Cons: I wish the instructions for this bike were a little more complete. A sentence regarding the application of heat to the kickstand bolts would have been nice, along with a warning for knuckle heads like me to secure the bike with straps before starting the installation.
      Overall I would score this installation as follows:

      Parts & pieces - A+
      Instructions - C+
      Installer - C-

      That said, all's well that ends well, and this ended very well. This is the best farkle I've installed in a long time.
