    Learn more about Competition Werkes

    Competition Werkes, Oregon, USA
Competition Werkes started in back 1984 by Ward McKee to support his dirt track racing habit. His idea of eliminating the rear fender to enhance the looks of his sport bike became an instant hit. By 1986, Competition Werkes Fender Eliminator Kit was being distributed to dealers all across United States.  The rapid growth caused the need to make changes. So in 2000, Ward brought all the manufacturing of his stainless steel products in-house which enabled him to ensure quality, fine tuned design and inventory control.

With the equipment and personnel to advance in products, Competition Werkes began expanding. In 2003, they brought the innovative Limited kits and their pivot mounts. In 2006, they brought a true race inspired exhaust line called WerkesUSA. With products being distributed worldwide by a host of companies, Competition Werkes is the most recognized name in the Fender Eliminator market in which it started.

      Install Carefully, but Worth It.
      Dustyn A. on 06/03/2010
Pros: It really cleans up the look of the bike and is fairly easy to install because it uses the factory plug and only requires that you splice the positive lead from each turn signal.
Cons: It doesn't come with a warning to let you know that if you're using it with the Competition Werkes fender eliminator kit that there's not enough room for the wires. I over tightened mine and was 150 miles from home when I lost my headlight and tail light because of a pinched wire that ended up costing me $65 + an hour labor to fix.
Light Werkes LED Integrated Tail Lights (Stealth version) for 2005 Triumph Tiger 955i
      by Mark A. on 05/10/13
Pros: Reduced amperage draw, good visibility, small profile and footprint, compatible with existing signals and hazard functions. "Cons" below are easily remedied.

It's a nice looking component, and as long as you are willing to risk voiding warranty, and have the simple skill set to modify both the wiring and installation anchors, also looks good when installation is completed. The yellow LED's are also a good match in color to the stock signal lamps if you choose to leave them intact to supplement the kit. If you choose to do so, also note the signal pattern synchronizes perfectly between the LED kit and stock signals. I verified the single LED that stays lit after the bike is shut down is not drawing a current from the battery, I assume it's supplied by a capacitor inside the LED assembly.
Cons: Not OEM standard-compatible as advertised:

Socket/connection plug does not match the original part, and even if it did, does not fit through wiring opening from tail assembly to wiring hub.

Both issues are easily remedied by cutting wires at LED’s socket and splicing into bike wire assembly. ‘Suggest using "Posi-tap" #EX-103RR (tap: 20-22ga/Accessory: 18-24 ga) to preserve wiring in bike and tape off bike-side connection socket to be able to replace stock lamp assembly if desired later. Assumed doing so will void return and warranty policies for this kit.

The 3 piece anchor screw female receivers on LED lamp housing also do not match configuration of OEM assembly. On the 2005 Tiger 955i this may be corrected by drilling the flexible plastic partition separating wiring and lamp assembly to match the layout. Also helpful is the anchor screws from the original lamp are the same thread gauge and pitch as the female tapped receivers in the LED assembly, and can be reused on the new set up.
